  • Empowering Women through Connection and Curiosity with Cathy Scharetg

Our series on WomanUP! comes to a close this week with an insightful conversation with Cathy Scharetg. Cathy is empowering women through connection and curiosity. She is on a mission to empower courageously confident women who choose to influence outcomes and create opportunities by speaking themselves into the room. My biggest takeaways from our conversation: Ask questions. "People who ask the most questions influence outcomes." Speak yourselves into the room because you ARE worthy and your ideas matter. Lead by example. If you want to change the narrative and open more doors for the next generation of women, you must go out into the world as you are, without self-imposed limitations. Honor each other. When you receive validation or accolades, don't diminish yourself by saying, "Yeah but.." just because you think it's more socially acceptable. Instead embrace it and confidently say, Thank you. • Modern Branding for an Outdoor Enthusiast

Just like real estate agents, we love referral business! So we were thrilled when Darci Gillespie reached out to us based on a strong recommendation from our client, Diane Terry. Darci is an accomplished agent with Windermere Real Estate, out of their Seattle, WA office. She is also an outdoor enthusiast with an an affinity for Mid-Century Modern style. First things first, all 3 of us bonded over being curly-haired women. If you know, you know. Christine's initial meetings and discovery interviews with Darci and a few of her previous clients, really helped us get to know her and gave us a clear picture of her style and how she does business. After careful consideration of everything that was revealed during her discovery, as well as in the brand survey (a fun task we give to ALL of our new branding clients) we presented her with 3 vision boards While all of them spoke to Darci's style, there was one clear winner that only needed a few modifications to get us to our final vision board. (You can check that out here.) With the vision established, we got to work on several variations of a logo for Darci. We feel it's very important for agents to capitalize on their name and keep it in the forefront of their branding. We did that with Darci, and spent a lot of time working with her initials. The uppercase D & G just looked all too familiar to other brands, so when we landed on the lower case mark, it felt just right. In stark contrast to the lower case mark, but with a similar rounded letterform feel, we stacked her name in uppercase letters and locked it up with the brand in the circle. With the logo established we started to have some real fun by creating a pattern and integrating her branding with the Windermere navy blue. We continue to work with Darci on new projects. And can't wait to take this brand into several new applications. • Together We WomanUP!

When the California Association of REALTOR®s and the organizers of the WomanUP! Retreat reached out to us and asked us to design the theme for their annual conference; we jumped at the chance! Their theme, "Together We," encompasses the power that lies within us when we connect and collaborate. The event's backdrop was the gorgeous Seabird Hotel in Oceanside, CA. We drew inspiration for the color palette from the locale and previous images of WomanUP! events. We integrated the WomanUP! signature hot pink and brought in ocean blues and pops of yellow, a color used heavily in the Seabird branding. Once we established the color palette, logo, and typography, the next step was to generate social media and digital marketing. Several of the event materials carried a pattern of WE's, and ME's as an accent. The vibrant stage backdrop was designed with adequate white space for the speakers to shine. The logo, the pink wave, and the brand pattern were consistently used throughout the event, from t-shirts to coasters to name badges. It was a magical event, and we're already thinking about 2024. Check out Christine's blog post here to learn more about our time at the event.

  • 7 Quotes and My Favorite Take-aways from WomanUP! 2023

This week I attended my 5th WomanUp! Event. I feel so fortunate to be part of this incredible community of women leaders who fill my soul. This year was particularly special as our company, Post & Beam, had the privilege of creating the design theme for the event. Guided by the exceptional talent of my business partner, Carrie Edwards, the theme, Together We, seamlessly blended the vibrant yellow and blue tones of the Sea Bird Hotel with the soft magenta color of WomanUP! Witnessing our work beautifully displayed throughout the event filled us with immense pride. As a veteran attendee, I had the opportunity to deepen my connections with friends I had made over the past five years. Reconnecting with these remarkable women was incredibly uplifting. I also had the pleasure of meeting new strong, compassionate female leaders, many of whom I eagerly look forward to collaborating with later this year. The power of the WomanUP! Community and forging new relationships were undeniable during this event. I want to share 7 of my favorite quotes and biggest takeaways from the event this year: "Don't worry about other people liking you. Worry about liking yourself." - Melissa Sofia; Melissa's words on overcoming disappointment and embracing self-confidence struck a chord with me. Believing in ourselves and that our self-worth isn't tied to the opinions of others allows us to live our lives authentically. "We don't choose ourselves once. We choose ourselves again and again and again." - Kathleen Black; Kathleen's keynote highlighted the importance of continuously choosing ourselves, even in the face of past setbacks and new challenges. Our choices shape our journey, and self-empowerment requires consistent reaffirmation. "Who you are today is not who you were 20 or 30 years ago." - Leslie Appleton-Young; By far, one of my favorite conversations was Leslie's interview with Bernice Ross and Carol Facciponti-Malcolm. These wise women advised on the increase of happiness as we age. They emphasized the wisdom, confidence, and freedom that come with maturity, enabling us to give back, pay it forward, and retire with a sense of fulfillment. "If I receive grace, then I feel the need to extend it to others." - Rhonda Keliipio; it was difficult to choose just one quote from Rhonda's talk because she made so many profound statements. I chose this one because I believe it's a great reminder that, at times, we all need grace, so being gentle with ourselves and others will allow us to move forward, together rather than alone, with empathy and the most profound connection possible. "Surround yourself with people who believe in you, and you can achieve anything." - Sabrina Brown; the conversation between Sabrina Brown and Kama Burton highlighted the transformative power of a supportive network. Being surrounded by individuals who believe in us can be the catalyst for achieving our dreams and aspirations. "Let them." - Debra Trappen; Debra's keynotes never disappoint. This year, Debra reminded us of the importance of radical acceptance. By letting others be, instead of trying to control them, we can release frustration, anger, and anxiety, ultimately experiencing a sense of liberation. "People don't need more instruction. They need to matter." - Tami Bonnell; Tami's talk underscored the significance of compassionate leadership. Leading with empathy not only fosters trust and loyalty but also cultivates a culture of happiness, resulting in increased retention, productivity, and overall success. WomanUp! 2023 was a profound and enriching experience. The event showcased the resilience, wisdom, and compassion of women leaders from diverse backgrounds. It served as a reminder of the power we hold within ourselves and the strength we gain through genuine connections with others. As I embark on my trip home, I am feeling all the feels; love, appreciation, sisterhood, and gratitude for being a part of this incredible community, and I'm excited about the future collaborations and growth that lie ahead for all of us. Together we change the trajectory of leadership around the world.

  • Branding & Identity for a Seasoned Seattle Agent Making Her Own Move

Early in 2023, our friend Valerie Garcia recommended us to a prominent agent in the Seattle area who was looking to expand into a new venture as an entrepreneurial coach, educator, and speaker. Diane Terry came to us with big goals and dreams of building a business that would not only grow and evolve her own career, but would benefit others as well. She asked if we would develop the brand for this new venture. After our first meeting with Diane, we were excited and nervous. She is highly successful and respected. To say she commands a presence is an understatement. Not only that, but she has a high regard for design and a beautiful sense of style. Her clients and colleagues know her as wise, insightful, and an incredible listener. As part of our brand discovery process, we utilize the personality archetypes that were established by Carl Jung, and continue to be used in brand strategy today. It was clear that Diane epitomized the Sage archetype; wise, influential, and dedicated to finding answers. We created a positioning strategy that captured the essence of the Sage and focused on Diane's point of difference: "For female entrepreneurs who want to accelerate their growth, Diane Terry brings 30 years of hands-on experience and unparalleled wisdom to her coaching. Diane Terry sets herself apart from other business coaches by teaching her clients how to connect, collaborate and be effective listeners so they can find the best solutions for their clients." Before diving straight into the visual identity design, we shared a series of mood boards and color palettes that we felt aligned with Diane's style. By reviewing these visuals with her, we were able to get a better sense of what she was looking for and we landed on one that has a delicate blend of black and white, with soft, earthy neutral tones. Like other REALTOR®s, Diane's name is integral to her new business, so we developed an icon of her initials, to be the centerpiece of her visual identity. The use of a more traditional style of typography for her name, is juxtaposed with a clean, modern style of the icon to create an identity that suits her personality beautifully. When we first suggested square business cards to Diane she was adamantly opposed, until we showed her this pattern we created for her brand, and how we could build upon the design throughout her materials. By rotating and repeating the DT monogram, it not only creates visual interest, but becomes readable at any angle. She loved it so much that we won her over with the square business cards and she even asked us to integrate it into her website design, which we also developed for her! With in-depth discovery and positioning complete, the visual identity and brand palette in place, we set forth on creating a website for Diane. Working closely with her on the copy, the visuals, and other elements we have built dianeterrycoach.com. In 3 months time, we were able to bring Diane’s brand from concept to fruition. Working with Diane has been a wonderful experience overall and we continue to collaborate with her on marketing her new venture. And if you want to know more about what Diane is up to, head over to dianeterrycoach.com and make sure to sign up for her forthcoming newsletter, Noticing.
